Goals/Mission Statement

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the fundamental principles of the international Red Cross movement; will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for and respond to Emergencies. Courses offered:

Instructional Objectives

  • First Aid and CPR Training: Perform first aid and CPR skills.
  • Babysitters Training: Decision making, first aid skills for babysitting; perform first aid/CPR, safety hazards, prepare meals/snacks, find and interview for jobs and how to care for the handicapped.
  • Infant and Child CPR Training: To provide childcare workers, teachers, parents skills for responding to emergency situations with infants and young children.
  • B.A.T. (Basic Aid Training): Staying safe in emergencies by learning first aid and safety information.
  • ACT Smart: (HIV/AIDS Curriculum): To understand HIV and skills and behaviors relating to prevention and reducing risk. By understanding the transmission and prevention of HIV, identify risky behavior, develop skills and behavior to reduce the risk of exposure and become comfortable interacting with people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Aquatics: To provide water safety programs to youth. Students will learn basic water safety, learn leadership and fitness skills preparatory to becoming a lifeguard, learn and apply CPR, learn to prevent disease transmission, and develop basic swim skills
  • Pet First Aid: Learn basic skills to keep your pets healthy and respond to emergencies.
  • Disaster Training: To provide basic skills needed in a disaster situation.

OHIO Standards-Benchmarks

Babysitters Training:

Science Inq. (identify potential hazards involved); Health; Social Studies

Infant and Child CPR Training:

Health: Demonstrate prevention techniques for home safety, recognize and apply proper CPR procedures, recognize the need for proper nutrition, learn and apply life saving skills relating to breathing and heart emergencies, demonstrate knowledge of signs and symptoms of home safety hazards such as fire injury, water, electrical shock and poisoning.

B.A.T. (Basic Aid Training):

Health: Basic first aid skills, demonstrate prevention techniques for home safety, identify terms associated with drugs, tobacco and Alcohol, explore alternatives to substance misuse and abuse, and explore family relationships.

ACT Smart:

Health: Explore prevention of various diseases and disorders including communicable, chronic and genetic, choose personal skills that lead to a healthy life style, explore social relationships, identify and practice personal hygiene, explore alternatives to substance misuse and abuse.

Aquatics:

Health: Choose personal skills that lead to a healthy life style, apply basic CPR, recognize and apply proper first aid procedures, demonstrate knowledge of signs and symptoms of safety hazards relating to water.
