Goals/Mission Statement
The goal is to provide 4th graders (of Springfield/Clark County) a trip back in time to a one-room school. The students will relive a day in 1878.
Instructional Objectives
- Reading, language, mathematics, history, and penmanship are taught using texts and methods of the 1800s
OHIO Standards-Benchmarks
Emphasis is placed upon meeting multiple Academic Content Standards for:
- Social Studies
- English Language Arts
- Math
- History
Materials Available for Teachers/Students
- Slates
- Slate pencils
- Texts including the McGuffey Readers
- Recess toys of the 18th Century
- Certificates for participation
Additional Information/Comments
- The students will relive a day in 1878.
- Once a class is scheduled, information is sent to the teacher on preparation for the day long field trip.
- The students will dress in the attire of the day and pack lunches with food of the time.
