Goals/Mission Statement

As the community's center for lifelong learning and enrichment, the New Carlisle Public Library meets residents' educational, cultural, and recreational needs by providing timely and convenient access to materials, programs, technology, and services.

Instructional Objectives

  • To help children discover and develop a love for reading.
  • To support early literacy development in preschoolers.
  • To support children in their academic studies.
  • To support children in their leisure-time activities.
  • To encourage the development of imagination and creativity.

Language Arts - Informational, Technical and Persuasive Text Standards

All benchmarks that include:

  • Reading for purposes of learning about a subject, doing a job, making decisions and accomplishing a task.

Literary Text StandardsAll benchmarks that include:

  • Reading texts that represent a variety of authors, cultures and eras.
  • Applying the reading process to various genres of literature.

Technology Standard 4All benchmarks that include:

  • Acquiring and disseminating information and enhancing learning.

Technology Standard 5All benchmarks that include:

  • Applying concepts in acquiring and managing information.

Materials Available for Teachers/Students

  • Print and audio-visual materials for classroom use.
  • Some books leveled with Guided Reading letters.
  • Specific collections available, organized by genre, subject, author, or reading level, on request.
  • Internet access for use.
  • Librarian will collect materials for teacher/homeschoolers' requests.
  • Special collection for teachers, parents, and homeschoolers.
  • Teachers may request a "Teacher's Card" and receive a six-week checkout period for their materials.

Additional Information/Comments

  • Teachers may schedule tours and story times at the library.
  • Will come to the classroom to provide book talks, story times, educational presentations and general library information. Teachers may request themes and topics.
  • The summer Reading Program encourages children to continue reading during the summer months.
  • Inservice programs at schools for teacher updates on library services.
  • Monthly Teen Programs.
  • No overdue fines on children's books.
