Goals/Mission Statement
The Springfield Preservation Alliance grew out of a community-based effort to recognize, preserve, and revitalize the architectural and cultural heritage of Springfield, Ohio. With a two-fold mission of advocacy and education, the Alliance works to preserve existing architectural resources and raise public appreciation of these resources through publications, tours, lectures, and special programs.
Instructional Objectives
- Increase and develop awareness and appreciation of Springfield's history in the built environment.
- Introduce concepts in architecture, public art, and history as expressed through architecture.
- Develop strong visual and observational skills.
- Increases and extend opportunities for critical thinking and problem solving through visual arts.
- Encourage personal connection to and appreciation for Springfield.
- Introduce concepts in historic preservation.
- Introduce concepts of contextual design.
- Introduce concepts in urban planning and smart growth.
OHIO Standards-Benchmarks
Emphasis is placed upon meeting multiple academic content standards for Social Studies and Visual Arts, grades K-12, while addressing components of Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.
