Goals/Mission Statement
"May the legacy, architecture and design of the Westcott House inspire awareness and creativity in your world"In collaboration with Springfield schools teachers, The Westcott House Foundation is developing special offerings for our young visitors. The goal is to target specific age groups each one with different objectives to meet the curriculum of
local schools and maximize the benefits of the visit to the Frank Lloyd Wright's Westcott House. The tour will focus on a different central theme for Elementary School, Middle School and High School.
Instructional Objectives
- Support teachers in their efforts to adhere to Ohio State Goals and Academic Standards
- Provide unique hands-on activities and opportunities for students to develop their abstract thinking, thus strengthening strong visual, observational and mathematical skills
- Build students’ pride of living in Springfield, the hometown of the architectural masterpiece by Frank Lloyd Wright
- Encourage personal connection to and appreciation for Springfield
OHIO Standards-Benchmarks
By directly linking our field trips to the state's learning standards, we make our programs more relevant and easier to use by teachers.Emphasis is placed on meeting multiple academic content standards for Mathematics, Social Studies and Visual Arts, grades K-12, while addressing components of Technology, Language Arts, and Science.
Materials Available for Teachers/Students

- Teacher Prep Pack: the material will be available for teachers after they schedule their tour. The packet will feature pre- and post-visit activities for preparing students in advance of the tour and for further study in the classroom after the tour.
Additional Information/Comments
- Continuing Education opportunity for teachers! Architecture, Design and Mathematics Workshop "Is There a Wright Way to Look at the World?" Credit hours available. Date: TBD
- Students for Students: Project Wright: after-school program for High School students.
- Comments: In 2005 The Westcott House worked with Catholic Central School to offer a special program for their students. Nine High School students, trained by the Westcott House staff and their teachers, led the tours and math activities for their Middle School colleagues. Project Wright was a big success and we would be happy to offer such an opportunity to other schools. Please, call us for more information.
