Goals/Mission Statement

Youth As Resources supports youth leadership in Springfield and Clark County by offering grants for youth-directed service projects.

Instructional Objectives

YAR supports  service learning as a means to foster the social and academic growth of young people. It provides financial support to service learning projects meeting community needs in three areas:

  • Neighborhood beautification, restoration and youth development
  • International Baccalaureate Program
  • High School Consolidation

Materials Available for Teachers/Students

  • Funding is available for well-thought-out service learning projects that identify, reflect and act upon a strong community need.
  • Grant packets are available upon request
  • YAR provides assistance to youth and adult leaders in considering how to incorporate service learning into their organization’s goals and activities.

Grant Need Area Descriptions

Neighborhood beautification, restoration and youth development:
Assist in restoration and beautification efforts in Springfield neighborhoods as well as other project ideas that address the development. Possible project ideas include: developing community gardens; increasing literacy skills; increasing community safety and reducing violence.

International Baccalaureate Program:
Will help the implementation of youth service projects. Service learning is an integral part of Springfield City School’s new International Baccalaureate program.

High School Consolidation:
Will aid the consolidation of the Springfield City high schools. Groups from all Springfield middle and high schools can participate in projects that will pave the way for a successful and promising future for the combined high school. Possible ideas include: assisting in landscaping design and care on the new school grounds or interviewing students from another community that has undergone school consolidation.

Youth As Resources is funded through private gifts through Springfield Foundation and Turner Foundation.
